Friday Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and the Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice.
So Friday Book Beginnings you choose the book you are currently reading or the one that is closest to you and share the first few sentences. For the Friday 56 you simply turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader and share a sentence or two that you enjoy. Then just add maybe a synopsis about the book in case others are interested. That’s it!

My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
Published on: November 20th 2018 by Doubleday Books
Summary (from Goodreads): When Korede’s dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what’s expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach. This’ll be the third boyfriend Ayoola’s dispatched in, quote, self-defence and the third mess that her lethal little sibling has left Korede to clear away. She should probably go to the police for the good of the menfolk of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and, as they say, family always comes first. Until, that is, Ayoola starts dating the doctor where Korede works as a nurse. Korede’s long been in love with him, and isn’t prepared to see him wind up with a knife in his back: but to save one would mean sacrificing the other…
Book Beginning: “Ayoola summons me with these words — Korede, I killed him. I had hoped I would never hear those words again.” (pg. 1)
Page 56: “Rumor has it she was asked out on her first day by a boy in SS2. It was unprecedented. Boys in senior classes didn’t notice juniors, and when they did, they rarely tried to make it official. She said no. But I received the message loud and clear.” (pg. 56)
Thoughts: Interested to see the dynamic between the two sisters and how this arrangement came to be. As well as why her sister is a serial killer. I’ve heard it’s a short snappy read so perhaps I’ll pick this one up when I feel a reading slump coming on.
