So Friday Book Beginnings you choose the book you are currently reading or the one that is closest to you and share the first few sentences. For the Friday 56 you simply turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader and share a sentence or two that you enjoy. Then just add maybe a synopsis about the book in case others are interested. That’s it!

Summary (from Goodreads): How far will you go to protect your family? Will you keep their secrets? Ignore their lies?
In a small town in Virginia, a group of people know each other because they’re part of a special treatment center, a hyperbaric chamber that may cure a range of conditions from infertility to autism. But then the chamber explodes, two people die, and it’s clear the explosion wasn’t an accident.
A powerful showdown unfolds as the story moves across characters who are all maybe keeping secrets, hiding betrayals. Chapter by chapter, we shift alliances and gather evidence: Was it the careless mother of a patient? Was it the owners, hoping to cash in on a big insurance payment and send their daughter to college? Could it have been a protester, trying to prove the treatment isn’t safe?
Book Beginning: “My husband asked me to lie. Not a big lie. He probably didn’t even consider it a lie, and neither did I, at first.” (pg. 1)
Page 56: “Young savored the giddiness that frothed through her like helium-infused bubbles, and even Mary’s sadness — apparent in the way she stood before the barn, slumped, gazing at the ruins and crying softly — couldn’t mar it. If anything, Mary’s tears buoyed Young more.” (pg. 56)
Thoughts: I took down notes of the semi-final books in genres I was interested in for the Goodreads 2019 awards and this was on the list for thriller. I’ve heard that this book is good but the subject matter is a little heavy. Based on the two snippets above I can’t wait to dive in.
