Summary (from Goodreads): Anything can happen once upon a con…

When geek girl Elle Wittimer sees a cosplay contest sponsored by the producers of Starfield, she has to enter. First prize is an invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. Elle’s been scraping together tips from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck behind her stepmother’s back, and winning this contest could be her ticket out once and for all—not to mention a fangirl’s dream come true.

Teen actor Darien Freeman is less than thrilled about this year’s ExcelsiCon. He used to live for conventions, but now they’re nothing but jaw-aching photo sessions and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Federation Prince Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the diehard Starfield fandom has already dismissed him as just another heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, closet nerd Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Review: I was so excited when I heard about the synopsis of this book. I immediately looked it up on OverDrive to see if my library carried it and quickly got on the holds list. A few days ago it was finally my turn with the copy and I devoured it in 3 days. It was a fantastic version of Cinderella. (It actually reminded me of A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray). You knew exactly what was coming throughout the entire novel but it still pained my heart when they did. It was told in such a different way that I couldn’t put the book down. I legit got emotional at one part and started to cry. That is very rare for me when reading!! It gave me Star Trek vibes and gave me memories about watching Star Trek Next Gen with my family at home after dinner. Or being a part of a fandom on Tumblr for a bit.

I loved how it was modernized with the addition of lesbian relationship. What I don’t like that was modernized which is just something that irks me for some reason is the talking of social media apps like SnapChat and vlogging. I don’t know why. I guess it maybe makes the story less false? I don’t know where I am going with this. I digress…

All the characters were lovable (except for you know the evil ones) and I found myself rooting for them.

Minus .5 stars for the “insured abs” being brought up over and over and over again. Like what the hell? Who does that? Why? Stop.

I don’t know. This one was just hella cute. Highly recommended for a quick, fluffy, fangirling read.

Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.

  3. I just finished this last week and I loved it! I have to agree with you about that insured abs thing, that got old along with “holy *fill in the blank* batman” being used in every other paragraph. But still such a cute and nerdy read! 💕
