Friday Book Beginnings & The Friday 56 | # 21

Friday Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and the Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice.

So Friday Book Beginnings you choose the book you are currently reading or the one that is closest to you and share the first few sentences. For the Friday 56 you simply turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader and share a sentence or two that you enjoy. Then just add maybe a synopsis about the book in case others are interested. That’s it!

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows

Synopsis (from Goodreads): Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown…

Jane (reads too many books) is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended…

Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.

The plot thickens as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?

Beginning: The king it turned out, was dying.

Page 56: “Lord Dudley assured me that Gifford will be a model husband.” When he wasn’t busy galloping around the countryside, Edward thought a tad guiltily.

Thoughts: I’m currently reading this right now. I’m almost halfway. I have to say I’m really enjoying it so far. I am not one to buy hardcovers of books. I prefer to wait when they come out on paperback but I got sucked into the hype and caved in. I was worried since there is 3 authors involved but you can’t tell the difference.

I love books set in the Tudor dynasty or anything set in the era really. What are your thoughts?

I have this on my wishlist – have had it on there for a while – I love this historical time period and the story of Lady Jane Grey is kinda sad to me – I would have loved for her to be the queen – I think she would have been very compassionate for the British people but as they say we can’t always get what we want – lol – thanks for visiting my Friday meme earlier
