Friday Book Beginnings & The Friday 56 | #17

Friday Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and the Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice.

So Friday Book Beginnings you choose the book you are currently reading or the one that is closest to you and share the first few sentences. For the Friday 56 you simply turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader and share a sentence or two that you enjoy. Then just add maybe a synopsis about the book in case others are interested. That’s it!

Something Real by Heather Demetrios

Synopsis: There’s nothing real about reality TV.

Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.

Beginning: It took me four years, seven shrinks, three different hair colors, one Zen meditation retreat, and over six hundred mochas to get to this moment.

Page 56: “It won’t happen again,” I tell him, my voice colder than I intended. “God.” I look out the window, nut instead of the parking lot I’m seeing orange plastic bottles lined up in my parents’ cabinet.

Thoughts: I feel like this will be good book to read inbetween serious novels.

What do you think?

I really liked this book when I read it a while ago. Who isn't fascinated with the lives for reality stars? This week my book is The School for Unusual Girls by Kathleen Baldwin – a historical fantasy. Happy reading!

  4. Sounds like this could be funny. I like the TM written after Bonnie's name (clever!); however, if that appears throughout the book, it could be annoying after a while.
