This week is intimidating reads. I feel like the books I choose this week will be along a similar theme. They will either be considered a “classic” or are very large.

1. The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides
I read The Virgin Suicides by him. The writing is fantastic but it’s a little dry. I really want to get into this one but I feel like I need to be in the right mind set and mentally prepare myself.
2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
It’s a classic that I’ve been meaning to read for ages. I really enjoyed the movie with Fassbender in it. I think it’s intimidating because I know the writing style is different in “classic” novels and can’t necessarily be read quickly.

3. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
I picked it up because it was considered a banned book. I find that a little intimidating but also exciting.
4. The Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin
The series is large and I find that intimidating.  Not only is the series large but the books are huge too!
5. The Diviners by Libba Bray
It’s a large book. I’ve picked it up multiple times but can’t seem to get into it but I really want to. Sometimes books are just so big that holding it is a task haha.

I definitely agree with classics being intimidating, most of the time I'm intimidated just because they're classics. I almost put The Diviners on my list as well, the size of that one is daunting! Great list! 🙂

  2. Ooh The Diviners is one I really want to read and I had no idea how big it was until recently and now I'm terrified, haha. My hands are small and weak

Jane Eyre is my absolute favorite book of all time. I believe that everyone should read it at least once in their lives. 🙂

  4. Classic books are intimidating to me. I tend to judge them with my 21st century preference, we cannot get along.

Ah, ASOIF is not that scary, to be honest. They're big and fat, but they are easy to digest. I have read all 5 books, I strongly recommend this series 🙂

You can only read with the book resting on your chest for so long! Haha.

I think I get intimidated by them because I'm afraid I won't like them and I don't want to not like a classic.

Ah the comparison between Classic and current books is a good point! I feel like the GoT series is something that once I get sucked into them that I won't be able to put them down again. I hope that time comes in the near future haha.

  9. I loved The Virgin Suicides as well, but I haven't tried to read anything else by him yet! I do want to read The Diviners as well – it sounds quite good.

As for certain classics, some aren't as hard to read as you might think! But I agree that a lot of them have a different type of writing style and it can be difficult to get into or understand.
