So Friday Book Beginnings you choose the book you are currently reading or the one that is closest to you and share the first few sentences. For the Friday 56 you simply turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader and share a sentence or two that you enjoy. Then just add maybe a synopsis about the book in case others are interested. That’s it!

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
Published on: April 1st, 2014
I bought this because it is set in Iceland. In 2013 I spent 10 days in Iceland and it was the most beautiful place and culture I have ever experienced.

Synopsis: Set against Iceland’s stark landscape, Hannah Kent brings to vivid life the story of Agnes, who, charged with the brutal murder of her former master, is sent to an isolated farm to await execution.

Horrified at the prospect of housing a convicted murderer, the family at first avoids Agnes. Only Tóti, a priest Agnes has mysteriously chosen to be her spiritual guardian, seeks to understand her. But as Agnes’s death looms, the farmer’s wife and their daughters learn there is another side to the sensational story they’ve heard.

Riveting and rich with lyricism, BURIAL RITES evokes a dramatic existence in a distant time and place, and asks the question, how can one woman hope to endure when her life depends upon the stories told by others?

Book Beginning: They said I must die. They said that I stole the breath from men, and now they must steal mine.
Such a good opening!
Page 56: Some days I think that I haven’t really slept since the fire, and that maybe sleeplessness is punishment from God. Or Blondal, even: my dreams taken with my belongings to pay for my custody.
Thoughts: I’m not too far in the novel, but I am really enjoying it so far and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. Also, I just love that it’s set in Iceland.

This sounds interesting but I'll be honest and state up front that if she dies after I've invested time in getting to know her and like her – that would make me really angry and never want to read the author again…lol…so I would have to know that the ending is one that I would be okay with….Thanks for visiting my Friday meme
