Friday Book Beginnings & The Friday 56 (2)

I found this on Bookworm Book Reviews and loved the concept of the two weekly challenges together. Friday Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and the Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice.

So Friday Book Beginnings you choose the book you are currently reading or the one that is closest to you and share the first few sentences. For the Friday 56 you simply turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader and share a sentence or two that you enjoy. Then just add maybe a synopsis about the book in case others are interested. That’s it!

from Goodreads
I’m giving Rainbow another try with Carry On. It seems that the fanfiction characters from Fangirl are the main characters in this one. Fangirl has been the only Rowell book that I’ve really enjoyed (unpopular opinion!).
Synopsis: Simon Snow is the worst chosen one who’s ever been chosen.

That’s what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he’s probably right.

Half the time, Simon can’t even make his wand work, and the other half, he sets something on fire. His mentor’s avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there’s a magic-eating monster running around wearing Simon’s face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here—it’s their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon’s infuriating nemesis didn’t even bother to show up.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story—but far, far more monsters [x].

Beginning: I walk to the bus station by myself. There’s always a fuss over my paperwork when I leave. All summer long, we’re not even allowed to walk to Tesco’s without a chaperone and permission from the Queen -then, in autumn, I just sign myself out of the children’s home and go.
56%: “The taxi driver was afraid to come down your drive. He thinks your house is haunted.” “It is.”
Comment down below with your Book Beginning or Friday 56. I’d love to see what others are reading.

I'm happy that I started with Fangirl before reading Eleanor & Park and Landline because those two disappointed me. Have a good weekend!!

I've not heard of this one. The writing is solid and a haunted house? Hmm…
